Okay so I've had my drawings [the stuff you see here on DA] slagged off A LOT and pretty darn BADLY during my days, but there's only so much of it you can beat away without it starting to make you really feel well and truly SHIT at what you love doing. Ever since I started drawing about 5 years ago I've dreamt of having a career in the film/ media industry using my artistic talents along the way. But right now, I'm really considering whether or not it's the right choice. To excel in a dream job doing the hobby you love is truly AMAZE - but maybe that's the thing.. it's a hobby. Maybe I should have just chosen to keep it that way.
I went for an interview to apply for a Art Foundation Course - the course you take to boost your skillz before University - Someone studied my portfolio half arsedly for like a few minutes before writing down notes and giving it to someone else to read out {WTF} The result being for this randomy to say almost immediatly, "the cartoons are a let down and we don't want to see them. but the life drawings are successful and sculptures are great, so you're in. ok. thanks. bye.".. oh yes literally the deepest held conversation I got out of all of them. and the college itself freaked me out. It was really modern but not in a cool way, it lacked friendlyness and appeared barren.. the art teachers looked more like boring shitty maths/history teachers. AND THE LACK OF ART AROUND WAS DEEPLY CONCERNING. Not a single shred of art ANYWHERE to be seen. Me and ma mates were jokingly saying stuff like "woah are we in a refugee centre or sumink...?" - But alas, if I wanna be successful this is what I need to do for a year.
My art teacher at my present college was comforting afterwards though, he says he likes my cartoons and my attitude. He wanted me to put them into my portfolio to show my passion but he knew they wouldn't like them because - like he too thought before he realised - they look copied and not my own work. EHHHH DX . he also says my weak point is my lack of confidence and recollection of my own skills. hmmm =/ maybe so but I try to keep an open mind and always know I can do so much better what ever my skill level.
Anyway, I'll end this stupid journal - which sounds like it should belong in an idiotic. pubesant, little girl's diary - with the note that I have like loads of Maraudery comics on the go atm so maybe, if I sort maself out, I will finish them one at a time and get them posted up here.

Perhaps we need to have dreams so wild they make us think we can't achieve them, but inspiring enough to make us try...

If they give you ruled paper, write the other way.
Okay, that last part was a lie, about the shrine, but you ARE AMAZING! CONFIDENCE CONFIDENCE CONFIDENCE! *we are sorry, your computer will not show any more of this crazy person's rant. Well...maybe that's a good thing on your part*

Do you like some humor, worry, happiness, sadness, LILY AND JAMES, the MARAUDERS, a SEVENTH YEAR ADVENTURE, and maybe some shameless fluffy? THEN COME READ THIS RIGHT HERE--->[link]
Our society is a real problem - our views aren't important unless we're in the category that the media controllers are in (ie middle aged, un-creative men). Do what you like and don't let anyone else put you down because they don't create the real rules!!!

I read books about Jesus and got saved by Harry Potter
My opinion is everyone has different styles and different strengths, and when people try to force someone to stick to one style (especially if they're not strong in it or don't like it), that hurts the artist and their work. It's important to branch out, but I think it's equally important to stick to what you're good at. So this 'we don't want to see cartoons' is bullshit. That's one of the things I hate about liberal arts sometimes--you'd think art would be open, but the stuck-up critics think they know what 'art' is. Ffft.
Anyway, this comment totally got off-track and I got on my soapbox, sorry! Hang in there and don't let it get you down! You're a great artist, better than I could do (there's a reason I'm a writer and not an artist--see my gallery and you'll see why).

"As soon as you laid eyes on me, you said, 'That's the man I'm going to marry,' and you pasted me one. I always knew you were an excellent judge of character."
-Henry DeTamble, The Time Traveler's Wife
That's what I got thrown at me in the convo aswell XDD ahahaha. But hey, we get inspired and influenced by work of pixar and disney. And unconsiously you do put some of their style in your own work. But that does not mean it's copied. It's your idea, your character design and they can't say that's copied (that's what I answered lol. They looked at me rather approvingly after...I think XDD).
So to hell with those boring and shit art teachers. They don't know anything. Well, they do, but not on animation and cartoons. So HAH >D
